The GoPro from that one trip, the drill, the tent, the projector. To you they are taking up space. To someone you know they are exactly what they have been looking for. Haves makes all of it visible, so the things that already exist get used instead of sitting still.

Four blocks away someone needs exactly that this weekend, and buys a new one. Something gets manufactured to solve a problem that was already solved down the street.

Some things get given away. Some get swapped, some get sold, and plenty just get borrowed for an afternoon and come back on Monday. We are not deciding that for you. We start by making what's there possible to see.

At first it is only the people you already know: your family, your friends, your building. Each time something works out — lent, given away, swapped or sold — you earn a bit of standing, and the circle opens a little wider. Friends of friends. Your block. Your neighbourhood.
That is where it gets interesting: the moment you stop counting what is in your own house and start seeing everything that is already around you.

It starts with trust that already exists
No reputation to build from zero. A building, a family, a football team — these are people who already know each other. We do not have to invent the trust. We only have to make the things visible.
Every good exchange counts
Something lent and returned. Something given away. A fair sale. Each one is a small vouch, and vouches are what open the next circle.
You choose who sees what
Your things are not on a public board. Each circle you belong to sees what you decide to show it, and nothing else.
An honest one
And if something doesn't come back?
We are not an insurer and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we can do is make sure the person on the other side is someone you know, or someone your own people vouch for, and that how they have behaved is there to see. Exactly how that gets shown is one of the things we are still working out.

A way to see the useful things that already exist around you. People add what they have and aren't using, and what they're looking for. Inside a circle of people who know each other, that turns into a shared inventory that nobody had to buy.
Not only, and not necessarily. Selling is one of the ways an object can move, along with lending, giving, swapping and borrowing. We're deliberately not locking that down yet. The first thing worth solving is visibility.
The circles you choose. Haves is built around networks of people who already have some relationship — a building, a block, a club, a family, a group of friends — not an open marketplace facing the whole internet.
Anything you own that sits unused most of the year and that someone could carry off on a bike, in a car or under one arm. Tools, camping gear, cameras, sports kit, kitchen machines, kids' things, books, instruments.
There's nothing to charge for yet. We're building the first version and putting it in the hands of a small group of people to learn from how they actually use it.
Soon, and in small groups first. Right now we are showing it to a handful of people and listening to what they say.
